NCSS
Color Selection Windows
The
color selection windows
let you choose appropriate colors from the 16 million colors that are
available on today's monitors (up from 16 available colors in previous
versions of NCSS). Although choosing a color sounds like a
trivial task, it can become time-consuming and frustrating. When you
have invested a lot of time and money in a project and now have
important results to communicate, you probably want to take the time to
make outstanding graphics. A few, well-chosen charts can communicate
results quickly and effectively. An important feature of a chart is the
color scheme that you use. The goal of the color selection window is to
provide a tool that will allow you to pick a set of colors that are
pleasing to the eye when viewed together, and let the viewer interpret
the results quickly and effectively. The color selection window is
available when modifying lines, symbols, text, etc. on graphs in NCSS.

The color selection window includes several
powerful and time-saving features:
The Basic Palette allows you to quickly select
from a variety of commonly-used colors.

The Color Mixer allows you to create a customized palette by
blending any two colors with a third. Simply drag and drop the colors
from anywhere on the window to the First, Last, and Ending colors to
create the palette. Or select from a set of preset palettes.

The Color Model indicates the current color space being used and
the numeric values of the parameters within the space.

The Color Wheel allows you to quickly select a set of contrasting
colors. Colors 180 degrees apart on the wheel are opposites. The number
of slices on the wheel can be changed with a click of the mouse.

Previously used colors and custom colors can be easily retrieved from
the list of Saved Colors.

The Active Colors box indicates the current and former settings.
